I’m so excited to have another writing site (that is a real money making opportunity) to be a member of! I have to admit, it took me a few tries to get on with Suite101. It was an adjustment for me to not write in the 1st or 2nd person and to write solely in 3rd person, but I’ve gotten the hang of it pretty quickly and it’s easier to write articles for Suite now. I consider myself fairly new to the freelancing world. I have 4 blogs that I maintain regularly and I write articles for sites like eHow, Helium and Associated Content. I’ve never written a book or anything, but after reading Writer’s Market, I have never been more excited about submitting my work to publishers. This book has EVERYTHING you need to know.
I just purchased the 2008 version of Writer’s Market for under $10, plus I got free shipping! For me, Amazon.com seems to be the cheapest retailer to purchase books from. I am in love with them.
WM shows you how to write what’s called a “query letter” and who to send it to. There are hundreds of magazines listed inside with information on what they’re looking for, who to send your query to and how much they’ll pay. There is also a list of book publishers, the top 50 newspaper publishers in the United States and so much more.
This book has definitely been worth the price I paid for it! I am getting some query letters ready to send out in the coming days and I’m so excited! Two weeks ago I had no idea what a query letter was.
If you are a freelance writer, or are interested in becoming one, I would highly suggest buying a copy of Writer’s Market. You don’t even NEED to buy the most recent version – they are obviously more expensive. Getting a copy that is a year or two old will be just fine if you’re starting out. There are updates to the book every year, but most of the publishers remain in the book. So to save yourself a few dollars, just opt for one a year or two older.
I hope this helps!
